Two books have come out based on the same set of documents and chances are the publishers were also rushed because both the parties wanted to beat the other. Ben Macintyre says Eddie Chapman was more of a British Intelligence man whereas Booth presents a more interesting person during the peacetime. Eddie has often been portrayed as jealous psychotic who had an innate talent for weird enterprises.

Charming British Criminal

Stephen Ward was the osteopath, who was consulted by Eddie Chapman to get his back treated, though the doctor failed. Eddie Chapman also lived with Mariella Novotny for some time, who was accused of having sexual liaisons with John F Kennedy. Even the usual spy thrillers are very popular among the people, and Agent Zigzag is a story which beats all the others simply because it was thrilling, entertaining and true at the same time. Eddie Chapman began his career just as a charming British criminal who went on to become the brainiest double agents ever handled by the British.

German Agent with a Heart of a Patriot

There were several petty offences against the name of Eddie Chapman, which included fraud and safecracking. He went into the custody of the Germans when they invaded Jersey, the channel island near France which Britain decided it could not defend. Chapman was sent to a nasty French prison, and he had only two options concentration camp or work as a German agent, obviously (and naturally) he chose the second option. The heart of a patriot still beat inside though he was a German agent outside. The Eddie Chapman story has been written before; the recently released information has made Ben Macintyres effort even more creditable and enjoyable.

The beauty of the book depends mostly on the unique gift of humor and timing that Ben Macintyre displays. The story is unpredictable, just the way Eddie Chapman himself was, and whenever you think a particular event will unfold one way, something else happens. Even his handlers were eccentric people, each of them was quite a character within himself. Eddies German handler, for example, was very proud of his British pupil and he loved the finer things in life as well.

War Is Not Appealing

Contrary to the impression you might be getting, war doesnt seem attractive in Agent Zigzag, though the belief that humans can rise to the occasion when it is required, is proven beyond doubt. Agent Zigzag is sure going to be a great film (the movie rights have already been bought by Tom Hanks), though the book itself is expected to stand ahead from all such creative efforts.
