Aida

Aida was first conducted by Guiseppe Verdi and has been performed in both French and Italian. The plot was written by Mariette Bey, and it was written in French by Camille de Locle and in Italian by Antonio Ghislanzoni. Originally produced in Cairo Egypt in 1871, it has been performed in the great cities all over the world, and now its coming to the Masada.

Aida is set in ancient Egypt in the time of the Epoch of the Pharaohs. If it were a Shakespearean play it would be labeled a tragedy, and tells the story of a young Ethiopian captive and slave named Aida, who is secretly in love with an Egyptian General Radames. When Radames is sentenced to death by live entombment, Aida conspires to be in the tomb with him in order to die with him and be with him forever.
