Aihole, is a well known historical place which has earlier been the Capital of the Chalukyas. This is a striking village town on the banks of the river Malaprabha. The region of Aihole has some of the most beautiful temple complex which attracts travelers in large number. This is an ideal place for vacation; travelers come from various parts of the world and admire the historic monuments of Aihole. Aihole has the array of some splendid temple ruins in particular. All the temples of Aihole have superb, complex carvings which were done skillfully between the 5th and 8th centuries.
The region has as many as 125 temples which leave one awestruck. These temples are further divided into 22 groups and are spread over the whole village. The town is well connected with Badami, one can reach here bus and catch the glimpse of the historic monuments. The temples of Aihole have witnessed the splendid past of Chalukya regime.

Ladhkhan Temple
Ladhkhan temple- This is the oldest temple structure which dates back to the 5th century. There is a shrine- like Vimana on the roof of the temple which attracts the visitors.
The Durga (Fort) Temple
The Durga Fort- This Temple is known for its semi-circular arches and a large gallery that encompasses the shrine. Here one can see the idol of Goddess Chamlundi Devi punishing the buffalo demon. There are numerous beautifully carved sculptures on the walls which includes the deity of Ardhanari the half-male half-female. These skillfully sculptures leave its visitors spellbind.
The Hutchimalli Temple- Is another attraction, the temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. This temple is to be found outside the village and has an image of Vishnu, perching atop a colossal cobra.
The Revalphadi Cave Temple- This Revalphadi Cave temple is the major attraction. This cave temple is devoted to Lord Shiva and is known for its well-designed and intricate carvings. The temple was built in 6th Century and shows the diverse forms of Lord Shiva.
Konthi Temple Complex- This Uma Maheswari Temple has ravishing carved sculpture of Lord Brahma. Here Bramha is seen nestling on a lotus.
Museums & Art Galleries
Aihole also has some Sculpture Gallery which is maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India. Tourists come here in large number and extract lots of historical information.
