Fokker Services being the expert in developing and producing advanced components and systems for the aerospace industry and supplier of integrated maintenance services and products to aircraft owners and operators is part of Fokker Aerospace Group. With the guaranteed availability of serviceable components, and flight hour-based components repair and overhaul services by ABACUS program me, it allows Dash 8/Q100/200/300 aircraft operators to better manage their lifecycle costs, improve parts availability and enhance aircraft dispatch availability. The ABACUS cost-by-the hour program me has been assisting legacy Fokker operators of post-production models to manage their inventory, repair and overhaul costs for 17 years. Operators of Dash 8/Q100/200/300 aircraft can now enroll in the ABACUS program me with immediate effect to join the six Dash 8/Q100/200/300 operators already enrolled. Fokker Services will repair serviceable components and ensure parts availability through its large component exchange pool on a cost-by-the hour basis under the proposed alliance, which is expected to be concluded later this year. The agreement with Fokker Services is one of a number of steps Bombardier is taking to enhance the operational value of Q100/200/300 aircraft since production was discontinued in August 2009.In late 2009, Bombardier launched an extended service program me with the objective of extending the economic life of Q100 and 300 flight cycles from the original 80,000 flight cycles and with a view possibly applying the program me to the newer Q200 and Q300 aircraft as they approach the 80,000-cycle mark.
There are approximately 600 Dash 8/Q100/200/300 aircraft in operation.
A320 Family Milestone
After its entry into commercial market in 1988,A320 has achieved over 50-million takeoffs and landings and what is arguably the worlds most popular single-aisle aircraft and having carried over five billion people. Airbus claims that the A320 Family has firmly established itself as market leader with all kinds of airlines, such as low cost, network or charter operators and in all regions of the world. Painted in some 250 different airline colours, A320 Family aircraft can be found 365 days a year at the world's busiest and largest airport hubs.
There are ten operators today with more than 100 A320 Family aircraft in each of their fleets. In contrast, A320 Family aircraft also operate at smaller airports and even in some of the most remote areas of the globe such as the kingdom of Bhutan, in the Eastern Himalays, thanks to their unique versatility.
The aviation success story can be partly attributed to Airbus 100-million euro annual investment that keeps the A320 Family technology state of the art, maintaining it as the most fuel-efficient and modern aircraft family in its category.
One illustration of the A320 continuous improvements in the new fuel-saving"sharklet" wing tip device launched by Airbus at the end of 2009.This device will enhance the eco-efficiency and payload-range performance of the A320 Family even further and is expected to reduce the fuel consumption by at least 3.5% over longer sectors. This corresponds to an annual co2 reduction of around 700- tones per aircraft. Starting with the A320, the Shark lets will be available as an option on A320 Family models from the end of 2012.
Airbus says it is fully committed to maintaining the A320 Family at the top of the single-aisle aircraft market and to ensuring that the best keeps getting better.
The A320 Family (A318, A319, A320 and A321) is recognized as the benchmark single-aisle aircraft family. With over 6,500 aircraft sold, and more than 4300 aircraft delivered to some 310 customers and operators worldwide, the A320 Family is claimed to be the world's best-selling single-0aisle aircraft family.
