The aviation industry in India has grown by leaps and bounds over the past few years. With such a sustained impetus, it is likely to grow even more. With the Indian economy thriving, income levels going up, the Indian traveler does not have to worry much, as timesaving and pocket friendly travel is now easily available. As lifestyles become busier and the pay checks become heftier, the Indian traveler does not want to think twice when it comes to quality, expediency or time. Catering to the mounting demands, many new players have entered the aviation field, embarking on brand new ideas and ground-breaking schemes.

There was a time, when air travel was entirely the privilege of the so called rich, but this has changed now. The aviation industry has grown over the years, and air travel privileges are now made available to the middle class Indian traveler, with economical fare structures, a whole range of airlines to select from, hugely covered sectors as well as superb services. This has been made feasible by the advent of new airlines in the aviation industry, which gave birth to the idea of budget airlines in India, a concept taken in from the west. Now that it has started, there is no looking back; as the aviation sector is quickly expanding its wings covering the entire nation. Indian peninsula has become home to a host of domestic airlines operating in India.

Till early nineties the airline sector was dominated by government only. There were no private players in this sector. Private carriers were not permitted to operate in India. There was no competition at all and as a result the industry did not see much development till the early nineties. With the influx of private players in early nineties the entire experience of airline travel and hospitality altered. With the start of Jet Airways and Sahara Airlines a revolution in the airline industry commenced and with the entry of more private players, the air travel reached to the common man. It was Air Deccan that revolutionized air travel in 2003, by providing tough competition to the other airlines and making its place very prominent in the aviation industry. It actually cut down its air fares equaling to the current train fares, so air travel got within the reach of the normal man. Other airlines followed the trend, thus providing an invigorating flexibility and affordability for the Indian traveler.
