Born in November 1, 1973, Aishwarya Rai is one of the most popular Indian actresses today

. However, she had to struggle really hard to reach at this height of fame and popularity. She started her career from modeling when she was in college, later on she decided to join the Miss India contest where she came at the second place.

After that Aishwarya Rai contested in Miss World beauty pageant and won it. This gave her immense popularity in India and around the globe. She decided to quit her studies and pursue a career in the fashion, modeling and entertainment industry. People usually believe that these beauty pageants are just walking around a ramp in bikinis and looking pretty. Which is certainly not the case, there is a lot of hard work required just to take part in these competitions. Aishwarya Rai did that inspired many Indian girls to follow their dreams with hard work and dedication.

When Aishwarya Rai decided to act in Hindi movies many producers and directors were reluctant to sign her. It was a common belief in the bollywood that models cannot act and dance like bollywood heroines do. Aishwarya had to take dancing lessons and she started her career not from bollywood but from Tamil movies. She starred in her first bollywood movie Aur Pyar Hogaya which failed at box office and was doomed by critics as well. But, Aishwarya Rai didnt give up.

It took several years when she finally got her first commercial success in Hindi Cinema. It was director Sanjay Leela Bhansalis Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. In this movie Aishwarya Rai worked with Salman Khan, and both came closer to each other. The media gone mad over this new relationship and the Indian tabloids were full of the sighting of the two as couple. Aishwarya Rai never commented on her relationship with Salman Khan, but she also did not deny it when Salman Khan publicly announced that they are seeing each other.

While Aishwarya Rais film career was at the peak her personal life was going through turmoil. Salman Khan, who was quite well known for his violent, aggressive behavior with his girlfriends, was very possessive about his relationship with Aishwarya Rai, this lead to differences between the two and they ultimately broke up.

In 2007, Aishwarya Rai married Abhishek Bachchan, son of Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bahaduri. The Bachchan family is one of the most influential families in Hindi Cinema. This marriage was covered frantically by Indian and International media. Since then Aishwarya Rai is living with her husband in Prateeksha the family mansion in Juhu, Mumbai.
