Some hair types are not capable of being curled, for example, so you could be limited by the type you choose.

Next, you will need to think about whether you want your real hair extensions to have the cuticles intact or not. Hair extensions with cuticles are generally thicker and have more substance than those without cuticles. Hair extensions without cuticles are still great if you want to achieve a silky hair look. If you go with hair that has cuticles, be sure to look for extensions that have the cuticles running in the same direction. Otherwise, the hair will be very difficult to place into your real hair. Real hair extensions can range in price from $300 to a few thousand.

Once you choose your hair extensions, you will need to place them in with your real hair. There are a few ways to do this, including braiding, sewing, weaving, and gluing. The thickness of your hair and the length of time you want the extensions are factors that will affect the technique you use to add your extensions. Those who have thicker hair should be able to hold extensions without a complex application. If you have thick hair, for example, braiding the extensions into your hair is certainly an option. Those with thin hair will need to go with a stronger application method, such as sewing or gluing. Thin hair tends to have trouble holding extensions.

If you plan to use your extensions for a short period of time, you will obviously not want to sew or glue them in. Obviously you will have more flexibility if you have thick hair, but thin-haired women can still opt for a simple application method if the extensions are to be worn for a very short period of time. New hair extensions come with a lock in mechanism that makes them great for those with thin hair or those who don't want to wear hair extensions for a long period of time. They are designed to literally "lock" onto hair to provide a strong grasp that can be removed easily. Locking in hair extensions is healthy for your hair because they are no chemicals used, but the process can take a long time. You will also not be able to lock in hair extensions without the help of a professional.
