All About The City Adelaide

History

History

The city Adelaide originated in the year 1836. It was a planned city and got its name from the famous Princess Adelaide of Saxe-Meiningen. She was the queen of King William IV. Colonel William Light played an important role in designing and planning of this city. The location of Adelaide was chosen near to the River Torrens. The whole design laid emphasis upon public squares, boulevards and parklands. Adelaide Park Lands are a much famous attraction of this city situated in the centre. It has also been included in the Australian National Heritage List.

Climate

Adelaide experiences the Mediterranean climate throughout the year. While little rainfall is seen in the summer months, winter witnesses heavy showers. June is considered the wettest month as it generally records rainfall about 70-80mm. Hail in winter is quite frequent here while snowfall and frosts are rare. Mount Lofty and hilly regions of Adelaide experience snow.

Entertainment

Arts have always flourished in Adelaide due to the political support given to this sphere. Some of the famous names established under the rule of eminent political personalities are: Adelaide Festival of Arts, Fringe Festival and Adelaide Festival Centre.
