All About The Pick 3 Lotto

Lotteries have evolved through the ages and in different places

, from recorded beginnings in China during the Han dynasty, when they were believed to have helped fund major government projects like the building of the Great Wall of China, to the city of Rome during the ancient Roman civilization's post-Republican phase where they served primarily as a form of entertainment during feasts, to the private lotteries, both legal and illegal, that preceded the state-sponsored ones in the United States. Today, all except a handful of the American states operate legal lotteries, although there is no national lottery. Depending on which state you're in, there are a lot of types of lotteries you can place your bets on. The simplest of them all probably is the Pick 3 lotto.

With the Pick 3 lotto all you have to do is select any three digits from 1 to 9. So that's any combination from 000 to 999. Most people pick their own combinations when joining, but for those that do not and in states that offer it, the computer system can actually randomly assign combinations.

Tickets are sold at less than a dollar, usually just at 50 each, every day during normal business hours. They can be bought through agents and establishments, like gas stations or convenience stores, authorized to sell tickets and designated by the Director of State Lottery. These agents and establishments have on their business premises a machine which is agent-operated, on-line, and prominently displayed with an advertisement stating they sell Pick 3 lottery tickets, among others like Pick 4 and Pick 6. They also have a communications link to the central computer of the Lottery system. All of these are actually requirements which serve as insurance that lottery ticket transactions will all go smoothly and conveniently for both the agent or establishment and the player.

The selling of tickets for a Pick 3 lottery date ends on the date of the drawing itself. The drawing of the winning combinations is held seven days a week, except on certain holidays like Christmas Day, and in most states twice each day, midday and evening. It is randomly generated by mechanical means, with the exact selection procedure determined by the Director of the State Lottery. The drawings are held at a venue open to the public, both time and location decided by the Director.

In most states the Pick 3 lottery comes in varieties, e.g. boxed or straight. You can pick your combination, betting on it multiple times according to what's allowed per state, or if no combination would come to mind or you really prefer to leave it all to luck, allow the computer system to pick it for you. But whether you're placing bets just because you're feeling really lucky, or you're truly serious about hoping to win the lottery to finally make your expensive dreams come true, the most important thing is to have fun! And with the Pick 3 lotto, as simple as it is and just as much as with any other form of lottery, you sure can do that!
