All You Need To Know About Aggrenox
A stroke is a leading cause of death worldwide with 795,000 people in the US suffering a stroke every year, according to the Internet Stroke Center. About 600,000 of these are first attacks and 185,000 are recurrent attacks. Aggrenox is a prescription medicine used to reduce the risk of stroke in people who have had a mini stroke or Transient Ischemia Attack or a stroke due to blood clot. The drug is a combination of two medications - aspirin and dipyridamol - and is quite effective in making a person's blood less sticky. This prevents formation of blood clots and the chances of a stroke. The medicine is distributed by Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Composition, Dosage and Precaution Related Information About Aggrenox
Aggrenox comes in a capsule form, containing 25mg of aspirin and 200mg of dipyridamole in an extended release form. Aspirin belongs to a group of drugs called salicylates and works by reducing substances in the body that cause pain, fever and inflammation. Dipyridamole keeps the platelets in one's blood from sticking together. The drug is not interchangeable with its individual components of aspirin and dipyridamole tablets. The physicians generally recommend a dosage of one capsule twice a day - one in the morning and another in the evening. One should swallow the capsule as a whole and not chew. The drug can be administered with or without food. One should never take Aggrenox unless a physician prescribes it after reviewing one's medical history and any other important information about your health. The drug is not suitable for a pregnant woman as it can harm an unborn baby. The medicine can also pass into breast milk, thus, harm a nursing baby. Several over the counter pain medications contain aspirin, salicylates and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or NSAIDs. So, it is advisable to read the labels of any medicine being taken by you to avoid overdose. One should avoid consumption of alcohol while taking a combination of aspirin and dipyridamole. Alcohol can increase the risk of stomach bleeding. Need for Adjusting Aggrenox Dosage and Side Effects
