Slewing bearings are ball or cylindrical roller bearings that can accommodate axial, radial and moment loads acting either singly or in combination and in any direction. They are not mounted in a housing or on a shaft, but directly to a seating surface. The inner and outer ring are supplied with mounting holes. Both rings may have integral gears. They are often made with gear teeth integral with the inner or outer race, used to drive the platform relative to the base. Besides, they are also referred to as slewing rings bearings which can perform slewing as well as rotating movements. They may be used without gears or with internal or external gears.

As we see in its name, to "slew" means to turn without change of place. A "slewing" bearing is a rotational rolling-element bearing which typically supports a heavy but slow-turning load. But when compared to the other rolling-element bearings, they are thin in section and are often made in diameters of a meter or more.

Slewing bearing can be divided into many categories such as the four point contact ball slewing bearings with internal gear or with external gear, four point contact ball slewing bearings with flange; triple row cylindrical roller combined slewing bearings, cross roller slewing bearings, and so on. They can be divided from many aspects like their structures, conductions, installation and so on .There are ball bearing, roller bearing and ball-roller bearing at type; There are single-row, double-row and three-row at structure. With teeth and without teeth on conduction (outer or inner ring); At dustproof and leak grease proof type, with airproof and without airproof. At mounting with flanged (outer or inner ring), with bolt hole and without flanged.

Obviously, this kind of products can be widely used in many places. They are first applied in excavators and cranes, and gradually, they are used in other machines. They can carry not only thrust load, but also moment load and radial load.

All in all, this kind of products is rather important. Although they are not as famous as others, they are also widely used in today's industries.
