All about the Federal Firearms License Requirements
The Federal Firearms Licence (FFL) is the license provided by the ATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms) which certifies that one is approved by law to run a firearms business. The FFL does not cover all firearms and thus for it to be all inclusive one needs the class 3 SOT ( Special Occupation Tax) FFL licence to deal in NFA (National Firearms Act) firearms. NFA firearms include machine guns, short barrelled shotguns and rifles, disguised guns and silencers.
There are several requirements that you must fulfil to file a successful FFL application with the ATF. The first requirement is usually about age; you must be 21 years of age and over to own a firearm or operate such a business. You are not supposed to have willingly contravened the Gun Control Act or banned from transporting, transferring, shipping or handling firearms. You should not have a felony record prior to application. The nature of the criminal record may all the same disqualify you from the process.
The other part of the federal firearms license requirements deals with the premises from which you conduct the firearms business. This business should first of all be legal in the area you intend to conduct it. You should have informed the chief law enforcer in your area of your intentions to start the business. The business premises should be able to meet the ATF requirements by the thirtieth day of approval of the licence.
A key pointer with the federal firearms license requirements is that you should always give true information. Discrepancies of any sort may disqualify you from the process or you may even be arrested for perjury on federal documents.
Following the application you will be called in for live interview where you will verify all the details you have provided. You further will be interviewed on the various laws that govern firearms and the business itself. This is normally the hardest part and where many people fail. This however needs not be the case as there are successful FFL holders who can help achieve federal firearms license requirements.
