Am I Taking Too Long to Move On After She Dumped Me?

Am I Taking Too Long to Move On After She Dumped Me

?

My girlfriend dumped me a few months back and I just can't seem to move on and put her or our relationship behind me. Is there a point when it becomes too long and there is something wrong or should I take my time before moving on?

It would be great if blanket statements worked for every situation every time. But they don't. There are no general rules for how long it should take to get over a relationship when it ends. There are just too many differences between people, relationships, and depth of emotion. That's what makes relationships so wonderful and terrible at the same time. No two are exactly alike.

It is possible to take too long to get over a girlfriend after being dumped. These are the cases where the sadness of a relationship ending has been replaced by a medical condition known as depression. This is when you need to seek qualified medical help but depression isn't something you just shake off or get over.

If you're not depressed but just not ready to leave it all behind or give up hope that the relationship can be saved perhaps there is something better you can do with your time rather than trying to move on. Perhaps you can turn your attention instead to finding ways to get your ex back and make your relationship work this time instead.

For the most part you don't need to put a time limit on yourself when it comes to being ready to move on. That's just another layer of stress you don't need in your life at the moment. Instead, focus on doing things that build you up and make you feel better about yourself, who you are, and where you're going in life. When you focus on other things you might find that you're getting over your ex in fits and starts despite yourself.

It's not easy to face life alone after you've been "we" for so long. Sometimes, going "cold turkey" and getting out there to face the world is the best sort of shock therapy that's available to you.
