Americans And Europeans Are Outnumbering The Asians In Canada
In the decade of 80s the nation had more number of Asian immigrants than they were from other countries
. Almost half of the non-white population is comprised of Asians and to be more precise Chinese, Indians and Filipinos.
The major cities of the nation have been dominated by the population of ethnic minority. In fact 50% of the population is covered by them.
The nation has started to experience a different story. A report released recently says that the population of Asians have fallen down by 50% in the last 6-7 years.
Nicholas Keung of The Toronto Start says, Applicants from China has fallen by 45%, those from India has fallen by 51%, from Philippines it has fallen by 32% and from Pakistan it has fallen by 65%.
Keung opines that the cause in the fall of applications is due to the changes brought in immigration policy.
He says, Critics say the disproportionate declines from China, India, the Philippines and Pakistan could be an indication of how Ottawas policy changes favour some immigrant countries over others. He feels that this would have an impact on the immigrant population.
He says that the strictness in thelanguage criteria has shifted the entry from Non English countries to English speaking nations.
According to another source, the stumbling economy in USA is shifting the citizens to nations like Canada which has better opportunity in terms of job prospects.
CTV News reports, Ottawa approved 34,185 visas alone in the last year which is very close to record high numbers.
Immigration Minister, Jason Kenney says, The number one problem in the U.S. economy is unemployment, so its natural youre going to see more young Canadians coming back from the States.
Also the American students are preferring Canada due to its reasonable cost of education and living. Canada is rated well for the level of corruption, racism, democracy and other factors which allows one to live peacefully.
The number of Europeans has also appreciated in the last few years. 16% more of
Portuguese population has over to Canada while thousands of Irish are finding a home for themselves in Canada. The number of Greeks moving to Canada has been doubled in the last year itself.
Brian Stewart for CBC News says, The high unemployment among the continents skilled trade workers has opened a moth lode of tens of thousands or prized immigrants of exactly the type Ottawa now want to encourage.
Stewart says, The Federal Government recently announced plans to change Canadas clogged Immigration system, something that is long overdue.
Mikal Skuterud of University of Waterloo says, That the focus has shifted to English speaking countries and I has moved away from Non English speaking mcountries like China.
Some experts also opine that countries like China are becoming strong with the growing advancement in technology; hence their citizens prefer to stay back in their home country for higher studies and job. On the other hand countries like US and Europe are undergoing the phase of stumbling economy; thereby the population is forced towards a nation like Canada with galore of opportunities.
