Americas Dependence On The Government
Has America becomea society dependent on the government
? When looking back on America's past, we see masspilgrimages, revolutions, western expansion, gold rushes, revolutions, a railroad connecting the two coasts,an auto industry boom, and a nation of hard workers dead set on achieving the American dream. We were anation where individualachievementwas king.
There was a time in America when you could leave your house unlocked while you were at work, and your kids could play outside without much of a threat. So what has changed?
When did America become a society dependent on the government?
The real turning point in America was when the government set forththe "Great Society"legislation. The program aimed to end poverty and racial inequality. The legislationhad good intentions, but over time has grown into a social welfare program too big for its own good.
Today, people blame the government for just about everything. Since when did not being able to afford youroversizedhome, or gas foryour gas guzzling tank, become the government's problem? Yes, there are people in our society who need government help, but how many able-bodied Americans are abusing social programs without doing anything to better themselves?
It is the government'sresponsibilityto maintain the peace and keep the order in society. But what about an individuals responsibility to serve the state? A healthy society has a steady blend of both. To quote JFK "and so my fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country".
Instead of being a society dependent on the government, take individual responsibility
As Americans we have it pretty good. We have running water, electricity, emergency response units, free public education, food on the table, and so much more to be thankful for. To some, these are rights, to others these are blessings to be thankful for.
Instead of blaming the government for being unemployed, or for losing our homes to foreclosure, let's ask ourselves what are we doing to find a job and keep our house. A society depends on its people, just as much as the people depend on its government.
How much longer can America be a society dependent on the government?
The fact is, the path that we are on now is unsustainable. Without arevolution of thinking, wherepeople accept responsibility for their own actions, we will be indebted to ourselves and other nations. Asinconvenientas it may be, the people of America must allow themselves to take accountability for their own actions.
Ways to complain less and be happy:
-Change the way you think
-Train yourself to be less judgmental
-Make a list of things you are grateful for
-Accept responsibility
-Find what makes you happy and pursue it
-Take care of your mind and body
Just remember, America is great! Youdon'thave to travel to other countries or watch the news to realize how great we have it. It is too easy to lose sight of how precious theopportunityto be able to achieve the "American dream" is. Find your passion in life and learn to make that into your career.Ultimately,as individuals, we hold the keys to our owndestiny- not anyone else. Me personally? I like it that way.
