An Introduction To Martial Arts Gear

Martial arts from the very term implicate fighting style or warfare strategies

. It basically is a codified discipline with a long traditional history that essentially teaches combat techniques but for self-protection and for the prevention of any harm or attack inflicted on others. Martial arts definitely have different forms and unique styles for different parts of the world- like there is European martial art, African style, American form and Asian combat. Again in Asian styles there could be variations like- Chinese, Japanese, Korean etc.

For each kind of style the martial arts gears needed could be different from each other. Some even do not advocate the use of gears. But in such cases, the students remain under constant supervision of expert trainers. Whatever might the form be, use of martial arts gears have certain specific purposes-

While practicing, the students fight with trained but real persons or among themselves. So there are high chances of both the parties getting hurt. For such circumstances, the martial arts gears come to the protection of the people fighting. Safe guarding their important body parts, which are exposed to blows from the opponent, is also the task of the gears.

The second important feature of the martial arts gear is to facilitate movement despite the weight issues, since moves are the essence of martial arts.

There are different kinds of sparring gears available but one is required to select those that are specific to the kind of martial arts one is learning. Some of the common kinds of martial arts gears are as follows:

Martial arts Head Gear- these are the helmets, mouth guards and face masks, meant for the protection of the head and the facial structures. There are high chances of fast blows on the face, especially in the wrestling style.

Torso gears- those meant for the protection of the upper torso of the body, like the chest shields safe guard the chest region and also up to some part of the abdomen. A part vulnerable in any king of martial art.

Protection of the groin- these are more significant for men than for women. These include the sports cup or the crotch guard meant for the prevention of injury of the privates from direct, strong blows in form of punches or kicks, coming from the opponent.

Shin guard- this one is particularly important since the area of the shin is mostly muscle without much flesh covering it ad giving it a natural protection. So, a hit on this area would be more injurious and painful than many others. The shin is vulnerable to hurt when flying kicks are tried to be blocked by the leg.

Feet gear- a direct hit or kick from the legs or feet could be very dangerous. So the kicking boots are so designed that they protect the opponent from severe injury when kicked at.

Hand gear- these include the punching mitts, which protects the opponent from vigorous punches.

Martial art gears of good quality are an important part of the training. It should prevent one and his opponent too from injuries as well as make the fighter be comfortable in making his moves.
