An Overview Of The Feature Packed Blackberry Torch 9810
The first Blackberry Torch, called the 9800, was a successful handset
, and the smartphone that many RIM fans had been waiting for. Naturally, a couple of upgraded versions have been released, among them the Blackberry Torch 9810.
In this article I will provide a closer look at this handset and its key features so you can decide if its the right smartphone for you.
The form factor of this handset is the same as the original; full touchscreen, with a full QWERTY keyboard sliding out from underneath. This combination was a first for a Blackberry smartphone, and a major part of the popularity of the device. The screen is 3.2 inches, which is big enough for most users. This packs a resolution of 480x 640 so display quality is very good, though not quite up to the standard of some high end smartphones like the iPhone 4 o HTC Sensation. The keyboard remains relatively unchanged, and keeps the classic QWERTY layout which millions are familiar with. The keyboard makes this the ideal phone for those who send a lot of text messages or emails etc, so it suits social and business users alike.
The camera is similar to the original 9800 Torch, with 5 megapixels at its disposal along with autofocus and LED flash. Continuous autofocus, face detection and image stabilisation are also included so taking pictures is simple. The camera can also shoots 720p HD video footage which is a welcome improvement over the VGA capabilities of the original.
Browsing the web is one of the strengths of the Blackberry Torch 9810. Obviously, Wi-Fi connectivity is included, but the data download speeds in 3G areas (via HSDPA) has doubled to 14.4 Mbps, compared to the original Torch. The HTML browser can view most websites with no problems, and pages load quickly thanks to the 1.2 GHz processor.
As you would expect from a Blackberry smartphone, multiple messaging formats are supported, including SMS, MMS, Email, push Email and IM. Obviously, those who take advantage of the keyboard for this will find the Torch 9810 an excellent messaging device.
A handy 8 GB of internal storage is provided as standard, so there is plenty of initial storage capacity for photos, videos, applications, saved messages and music tracks. This can be increased further by using the microSD slot and installing a memory card of up to 32 GB.
The Blackberry Torch 9810 provides a number of welcome upgrades over the original 9800 model. Whilst the technology it provides may ne be as up to date as some more recently released handsets, it does provide a comprehensive and functional package which is sure to please RIM fans. The Torch range has proven successful thus far, so we can expect future instalments to be even more impressive.
