An Unsightly Complication Of Liposuction: Mistakes In Surgery Can Leave An Area Of The Body Dimpled
A lot of people want to get liposuction in an attempt to look better
. The surgery can successfully remove up to ten pounds of fat, and it is usually taken from a small area of the body. The affected area takes on a leaner and more toned looked after the swelling of surgery has gone down, but sometimes there are unpleasant surprises. If not done properly, the procedure can leave the area bumpy and dimpled. People who suffer from this complication are understandably not satisfied with the results.
The expected result of liposuction is a thinner, more attractive body. Removing fat from small areas may not be as dramatic as some people imagine, but it can make people look younger and fitter than they did before.
It's actually considered in the medical community to be a minor surgery and it is almost always for purely cosmetic reasons. Medical weight loss for health reasons is done in different ways.
At the time of surgery, the patient's body is marked in the affected area to make certain that the patient and the surgeon are on the same page as to exactly where the fat will be removed. The area is sterilized and numbed with a local anesthetic. Small incisions are then made through which the fat can be sucked out.
The surgeon uses a cannula, which is similar to a straw. Once inserted, the cannula breaks up the fat cells so that they can be sucked out.
If done properly and carefully, the fat is removed smoothly and evenly in the affected area. The result is smooth and naturally-looking skin. Even the incisions do not usually leave long-lasting scars. (They usually fade within a few months to a year.)
Some people feel self-conscious or uncomfortable with others knowing that they have had liposuction. They don't want there to be any visible sign of what they have had done.
But if the fat is not removed evenly, the results can be noticeable and less than attractive. Rather than being smooth and natural-looking, the affected area is bumpy with obviously-dimpled fat and uneven skin.
There are several reasons that this might happen. The surgeon could be inexperienced, tired, or in a hurry. A distracted surgeon, for whatever reason, may not give the attention to detail that is necessary to successfully remove the fat.
It also might happen if the surgeon attempts to remove too much fat. This is one reason why ethical surgeons will be unwilling to remove more than ten or eleven pounds of fat.
The best way to avoid this complication is to find a good surgeon. Doing a little research can go a long way toward improving the liposuction experience.
