Thus, he was a troubled Jedi knight who fathered Luke Skywalker and his twin sister Princess Leia Organa was overcome by evil forces to fall into the dark side.

In later episodes, Luke saves his father and redeems him into good graces while Anakin then sacrifices himself in order to save Luke, his son.
