Renowned Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli has performed on many stages around the world - save for one rather famous one
. Bocelli has never stepped on stage at New York's Metropolitan Opera, but all of that is about to change. In early September the Met made an announcement saying that Bocelli will make his Met solo recital debut on Feb. 13, 2011.

He will be joined by pianist Vincenzo Scalera. Don't miss this unique opportunity to see and hear Bocelli at the Metropolitan Opera. The famous tenor has appeared at several well-known venues including the New York Carnegie Hall, the Vienna State Opera, the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and Berlin's Deutsche Oper. He has performed alongside the New York Philharmonic, the Moscow Radio Symphony Orchestra and the London Symphony Orchestra. Come the new year, he will be able to add another location to his long list of venues.
Tuscan-born Andrea Bocelli emerged on the classical music and opera scene in the early 1990s after participating on Luciano Pavarotti's popular Miserere album as well as his participation on Zucchero Fornaciari's 1993 world tour. Over the years he has collaborated with a number of famous pop singers including Sarah Brightman and Celine Dion and has also made inroads in opera, often being referred to as "the fourth tenor."
Bocelli gained an interest in music at a young age, becoming even more drawn to it after a soccer accident at the age of 12 left him completely blind. His first big breaks came with the tour alongside pop balladeer Fornaciari and subsequently with Pavarotti at the Pavarotti International Festival in Modena. Afterward, Bocelli embarked on a solo tour, visiting several cities throughout Europe.
In 1994, he released his first album, a self-titled effort, followed swiftly by another simply titled Bocelli. Both focused entirely on his operatic singing, with songs including "Con te Partiro," "Vivo Per Lei," "Per Amore" and "Macchine da Guerra." In 1997, Bocelli took a different turn from opera and focused solely on pop music for the album Romanza. In fact, it included the hit song, "Time to Say Goodbye," recorded with Sarah Brightman. Another pop effort, Sogno, followed in 1999. The record featured the hit song "The Prayer," a duet with Celine Dion, which led to Bocelli receiving a Grammy nomination for best new artist.
In the 2000s, Bocelli turned once again to opera, with the release of Verdi as well as recording lead roles in versions of La Boheme, Tosca and Il Trovatore. What Bocelli has really succeeded in is bringing new fans to the opera genre, including many who are part of the younger generation.
While you may have a large collection of Bocelli albums, there is nothing quite like seeing the charming tenor perform live on stage. Reserve your seats today and enjoy the music.
