Animal Cruelty - Recent Stories
After reading several stories as of late about cruelty to animals
, especially cats recently, I just can't believe how careless people can and how little disregard they show for another's life.
One that caught my eye was the story of Pink. You may have recently read or heard about the story of Pink. Pink was dumped over a fence into someone's back garden. The home owner didn't manage to see who did it but called the RSPCA right away. Upon closer inspection it was revealed that the naturally white female cat had in fact been dyed pink. An RSPCA Spokesman described it as possibly a "sick prank" on the owner.
It was later revealed that the owner of Pink, whose real name was discovered as being Oi! Kitty had come forward after seeing the publicity in the press regarding this particular case and asked the RSPCA to return her cat.
The disturbing thing about this story is, it was in fact the owner who dyed the cat pink using food colouring to match her hair! Apparently she got the idea from an American TV show where they did similar things to dogs.
She told the newspapers how she knew what she was doing, she had read the instruction on the food colouring label and decided that as it has no noted side effects she used it on her cat. Her reasoning being that we eat it, there for it cannot possible be toxic. The problem though is the blatant disregard for the animals well being. The stress you put on the animal as you try to keep them still to apply the dye and then trying to stop them from cleaning themselves as the dye sets in must be quite terrifying for the animal and all for what?
What really shocked me was that the owner saw nothing wrong with her actions and demanded that the cat be returned to her.
Another story that was recently in the public eye was the story of a three month old black kitten which was dumped into a plastic bag and left in a communal refuse area. Luckily a neighbour heard the cries of the kitten and called the RSPCA.
It boggles the mind how people are so careless and so ready to dump a living creature when it no longer serves their needs or desires and to squirm their way out of responsibility. These animals depend on us, for our affection and care and it's sickening to think that people are so quick to betray that trust.
It's my personal opinion that the law and the RSPCA are not tough enough on cracking down on these people, please, discuss and let us know what you think!
