Anxiety is something you might experience in a life threatening situation and feels like you are on constant high alert and very aware


Many of us can get stuck in this state when we experience overwhelm, caused by too much information coming in at once or, by unrealistic demands placed upon us. We may feel rushed and pushed beyond our limits and capabilities.

Here are 5 ways to help you find some calm in your life and reduce your anxiety.

1. Keep a journal. Writing out how you feel can help you get things into perspective. Write a list of your anxious thoughts. Better still; write a story about your anxiety as if it was happening to somebody else.

2. Cut out Caffeine. Caffeine is a stimulant that causes anxiety. Some people are very sensitive to it and do not even realise this. So, if you are already hyper-anxious,you do not need more of an increase in your symptoms by having coffee or cola or a lot of chocolate.

Just be aware that it may very well be contributing to your symptoms. Find alternative products like Roasted Dandelion.

3.Do one thing at a time. If you are feeling overwhelmed, make a list of what needs doing and just take one thing and focus on that. That is all you need to do right now. Nothing else.

4. Speak to someone. Sharing your anxiety with a friend or counsellor will help you gain insights as to how to deal with it more constructively.

Talk to you pet, if you own one. Animals are able to sense your distress. They will very often come and sit with you to help you calm down. There is nothing like the unconditional love a pet can give you to help you on the road to recovery.

5. Be in the moment. Anxiety takes over when we leave the present moment and go into the future, imagining all kinds or negative scenarios or into unhappy memories of the past. Recognise when your mind has wandered and bring it back to the present moment. Now, is all there is.

When you notice that you are worrying about something, recognise that you have abandoned the present moment again and need to bring your attention back. Begin counting backwards from 100. This will refocus your mind and help you calm down.

By putting these steps into practice in your daily life, you will begin to reduce your anxiety and feel more in control of your life.
