Also some advertised job titles are so similar that at first glance one cannot see any differences between them. This is sometimes the case of data entry jobs and transcription jobs. Just because they are advertised as work at home jobs that can be done both online and offline, a lot of people think that it is the same job. In reality data entry jobs and transcription jobs are very different.

If you want to work in a data entry job you should know that requirements are relatively low and you can make a living from your work. You need to have a computer with internet connection, good typing skills and a spell check program so you can check on your work. The most important thing in doing this job as well as in the transcription job is accuracy. But while data entry is usually typing in one or more programs the given the data, the transcription job involves much more. To work in such a position you have to have experience and you need to have background in the area where you want to do the transcriptions.

If accepted you receive audio files either in your email or as discs, cassettes, or other formats. You have to listen to these recordings and write them down word by word. Most of the times the transcription jobs are in the medical or legal fields and relevant background and sometimes even classes are required in each of the two areas. It is important to know and understand the terms so that you can make a correct transcription. Your transcriptions might be vital for other people especially in the medical field. However not all the transcription jobs are in the mentioned fields. There are other fields where transcription is necessary and more and more often companies want to have their video conferences and web meetings transcribed so that they can have them in the file.
