Are Internal Hemorrhoids Dangerous?

Most people treat their hemorrhoids at home and this is common for most simple cases of hemorrhoids

. There are few steps that you just need to follow and your hemorrhoids may be gone forever. But for cases that hemorrhoids were left untreated, or you may not aware of, most likely the condition just worsens.

In the case of internal hemorrhoids, they don't usually hurt and you can't see or feel them. Internal hemorrhoids are often small and lie far enough inside the rectum. Bleeding during constipation may be the only way to know if you have internal hemorrhoids. Internal hemorrhoids do occur because of the swollen veins in the wall of the anal canal.

If you see bright red stains of blood in the toilet bowl after a normal bowel movement, it can be a sign of internal hemorrhoids. There are cases when the swollen veins inside are large and bulge out of the anus, it is called prolapsed internal hemorrhoids and sometimes mistaken as external hemorrhoids. If this happens, it can be very painful as it may rub against surface when you sit down.

Why do internal hemorrhoids appear? It can be due to chronic constipation, diarrhea, obesity or pregnancy. The pressure that comes from these things affect the internal rectal region. Internal hemorrhoids may lead to bleeding but you don't have to worry that much because they are curable and you don't have to suffer the pain forever.

Most cases of hemorrhoids don't need a surgery or require specialized treatments but when they become extremely painful like in the case of internal hemorrhoids, treatment includes the rubber band ligation, sclerotherapy, infrared photocoagulation, hemorrhoidectomy and laser coagulation. It is important to consult your physician right away and the proper hemorrhoid treatment will be applied.

During a rubber band ligation, a rubber band is placed around the base of the hemorrhoids inside the rectum. The band cuts off blood circulation and causes the hemorrhoid to whither away within a number of days. Rubber band ligation is an outpatient procedure that is relatively non-traumatic.

Another method is the sclerotherapy, similar to the purpose of rubber band ligation, in which the chemical solution is injected around the hemorrhoids limiting blood supply to the hemorrhoids until the condition subsides and or the hemorrhoids shrinks.

Next is using the infrared light to inhibit blood circulation to a small, bleeding hemorrhoids. This will shrink the hemorrhoids since blood flow is cut to the coagulated blood vessels. Same thing when laser coagulation is applied, a new method that uses electric current to trigger chemical reactions that shuts down the blood supply in the hemorrhoids and shrinks the inflamed tissue.

The last resort, if all other hemorrhoid treatment options have failed, hemorrhoidectomy is performed. This involves surgically removing the hemorrhoids with a scalpel or through laser.
