Are Pet Clothes Necessary or Just For Fashion

Pets now have a full line of attireto wear for fashion or function. They have a wide variety of T-shirts, sweaters, jackets, caps/hats, boots, bandanas, jewelry and goggles/sunglasses. Are they necessary or are they just fashion for the owner to enjoy? The answer is....both! Let's take a look at the necessity of pet attire.

Dog apparel serves two purposes, taking care of your pet during extreme weather and making your pet look special. Many people laugh at the idea of dog apparel, since your dog already has a coat of fur. You might ask why would a dog any type of pet clothing such as a dog coat, dog rain coat, dog jacket, dog sweatshirt or dog hoodie? However, what most people don't realize is that dogs can be affected by cold weather, heat and rain just as easily as their human counterparts. People own breeds that no longer live in the environment their breed characteristics were designed to thrive in. As a responsible pet owner we have to make the necessary adjustments to see that our pets are safe from the environment.

We often think about keeping our pet warm when it is cold out...how about keeping our pet cool when it is very hot. The pet attire industry has designed jackets that are designed to keep our pets cool in the hot summer months in warm climate regions. These jackets keep the core temperature of the body down to avoid any heat stress injuries.

It is not uncommon to see dogs on boats or at the beach...most dogs love water and love to swim. But a full day at the beach or lake can be very tiring for them and a doggie life jacket might be appropriate to assure their safety around the water.

Another thing modern life has subjected pets to is exposure to eye debris. Since it is not unusual to find dogs as passengers on motorcycles or dogs with their heads out the windows of cars, itbecomes necessary to protect their eyes from debris blowing into theirthem using goggles designed for dogs.

In regards to fashion, the designs of the clothing are an extension of the owners taste such as sports team attire or fashionable designs. As for bandanas and jewelry, they make look nice but we have to be careful when we allow ourpets to wear them. Many times they are worn around the neck and if they are playing with otheranimals this may be a source for the other animals togain an unfair advantage if they are wrestling and possibly hurt your pet. Use good judgement as to when you have your pet wear attire that may hurt them.
