Are Pseudonyms Necessary?
While individuals who work in the field of Internet Marketing really like how much freedom and variety it offers it is still a fact that most of the people who do not work here are more likely to look at it with intensely critical eyes. There are still plenty of misconceptions floating around about Internet Marketing and, frankly, the internet in general. The folks who work inside of it know just how legitimate and fulfilling it will be and, all the while, it poses an important problem: do you want to be judged for this world in your "offline" life?
Many folks who operate in the arena of Internet Marketing do so under a pseudonym. They pick out fake names for themselves because they wish to keep their IM life separated from everything else they doespecially if they are only working in IM part time. Many newer and part time Online marketers are concerned about getting identified by their employers and family or friends. Of course, in case you dont care about that kind of thing, it still is always a question: should you use a pseudonym for your online business?
There are a large amount of advantages to using a pseudonym. The biggest benefit, by a long shot, is having the possiblity to create an identity for yourself that is completely separate from your personal life and makes it easier to make sure they stay totally separate. If you work in a particularly strict or judgemental arena offline it is probably very important that you keep all of your internet activities away from their eyes and using a pseudonym will help you protect yourself from that.
IMers are also likely to use pseudonyms when they would like to sell products in different niches. This is the way they can create expert identities in numerous niches while building credible businesses without their having to worry about seeming like a dabbler. You do not have to worry about anyone saying "but what about the conflicting market that you are also selling in?" because you'll be doing that selling under a different name?
Sadly, though, often people go for pseudonyms because they do not want to pay taxes on the money that they earn in their businesses. If none of the business is done under their lawful name, then they believe that they shouldnt have to worry about the money they make being reported to the IRS. It is important you don't fall for this faulty logic. Even if you do business under some other name the income will still be viewed as income and you'll be held responsible for it. Beyond that, the IRS will eventually find out about it--everyone who endeavors to cheat the system fails.
It's definitely your decision if you use a pseudonym for your online activities. For some people it is simply simpler to have one name for their daily offline life and another for their online ventures. Others, then again, think that using just one single name makes your life a lot easier because there are fewer things to remember.
