Are The Sd Cards Secure?

SD (sd) cards refers to a non-volatile memory card format

, which was developed by Panasonic, San Disk, and Toshiba for use in portable devices. These cards are widely used in digital cameras, digital camcorders, handheld and net book computers, media players, mobile phones, and video games.

Secure Digital format has been very popular. Some changes in older devices have made the devices adaptable for sd cards of less than or equal to 4 GB. Confusion in the customers mind exists as all cards have the same physical shape and form factors.

San Disk, Matsushita, and Toshiba agreed to develop and market the sd memory card in 1999. The new format was designed to build to compete with the Memory Stick Format developed by Sony.

The non-security related parts for the sd memory card was issued by the SDA in April 2006.

Though the sd cards are in the lines of Multi Media Card format, a few differences need to be highlighted,

1- They are asymmetrically shaped so that it ensues of not being inserted upside down but the MMC does not make contacts if inverted.

2- They are thicker in nature, .when compared to the MMC cards.

3- The sd cards electrical contacts are recessed beneath the surface preventing them to meet the finger if the user.

The sd cards, similar to others in the business of flash card technologies are ship preformatted with FAT or FAT 32 file system on top of an MBR partition scheme. A standard FAT maintenance utility like scandisk enables to repair, retrieve, or repair the corrupted data. The sd cards are plain block devices. They do not imply regarding any specific partition layout or the file system.

Speed Class Rating is the official unit of speed measurement, for sd cards.

The Secure Digital supports at least three different transfer modes. They are

1- One-bit SD mode

2- Four-bit SD mode

3- SPI Mode
