When you label a shipment incorrectly, it most definitely is going to cost your courier some of their time. Ultimately, the mistake will be revealed in one form or another. A few things could happen. First, the courier could notice the mistake before the package is picked up. This is the one situation where you might not have to pay a fee depending on the policies of your courier company. The next is that the package is going to be assigned an address which doesn't actually exist, which the courier will catch at some point along the delivery. The third is that the package will be delivered to the wrong address.

When this happens, the courier company is going to have to have their employees spend time on sorting out the error. If the package cannot be delivered, they are going to have to ship the package back to you. Normally, when you pay a courier, you are only paying them to deliver a package one way. So it makes sense why they charge you if they have to ship it back to you the other direction.

If your package is delivered to the wrong address, it is going to cost the courier even more time and money. First, they will try to get your package back for your, if they can. If they cannot though, they will be forced to put in an insurance claim. This definitely consumes their time, and over time can cost them money if it causes their rates to rise.

Use the tools available from your courier to prevent this type of costly error. Use an online address book to make sure you don't enter addresses into a system incorrectly and you could end up saving yourself some money.
