Are Vehicle Warranties Really Worth It?

Youve been offered a warranty by your car dealership

. Is a warranty something that can help you or is it merely a waste of money?

Theres nothing quite like getting into your brand new car and knowing that its yours. Youve ready to sign the paperwork and youre ready to show everyone your new vehicle and to spend hours riding around in it. But then the car dealer asks you if you want to purchase the additional warranty. Immediately youre in a quandary you want to make sure that your vehicle is taken care of and to get out of any mechanical repairs as cheaply as possible, but you dont know if a warranty is truly worth it or not.

Warranties

Before you decide on whether or not you want to get a warranty for your vehicle, its a good idea to learn about the different types of warranties. There are two different types of warranties that you may be offered. One is called a power train warranty and the other is called a bumper to bumper warranty. Both are very different in what they cover and while one type of warranty may be ideal for one person, it may be a bad option for someone else.

A power train warranty is one that is designed to cover all of the moving parts on a vehicle. This warranty covers things like the transmission, drive train, transmission, and similar parts. A transmission alone can cost thousands of dollars to fix, and the cost of fixing an engine can be prohibitive. A power train warranty is a great option for someone who wants to make sure that any large expenses that may occur with the vehicle are taken care of.

A bumper to bumper warranty is a very comprehensive warranty that covers almost all of the cars parts, except for ones that wear down easily, such as tires, wipers, and brakes. This comprehensive warranty is a great option for someone who doesnt want to have to pay for very many automobile repair bills, as they will only have to pay the bills for the parts of the vehicle that need to be repaired over time.

A Good Option For You?

So how do you know if a warranty is a good option for your situation? It really depends on a number of things, such as how long youre planning to have the vehicle, if there are any warranties on the vehicle currently, and how much you can afford. If youre planning on keeping the vehicle for a long time, youll likely visit a mechanic a few times during the course of ownership, which is why its a good idea to get some sort of a warranty. If there is already a warranty offered by the dealership, however, you may want to further weigh your options.

When it comes down to it, a warranty is a good option for someone who doesnt want to have to pay very many automobile repair bills, and for someone who is on a budget. But make sure that you speak with your dealership before you make your final decision, as there may be another warranty option that they have available that could be a better fit for your needs.
