Are We There Yet?
Are We There Yet?
Are We There Yet?
How often have we heard that? Parents of young children hear it all the time. Are we there yet? Are we there yet? The litany can drive us mad.
I was talking to a friend the other day and she mentionedshe'd been taking her grandchildren somewhere and we were laughing about it. After I left her I was going over the conversation and it got me thinking about the journey that we're all on.
How often do we get impatient with ourselves when what we're working towards seems to be taking longer than we'd hoped. The big client doesn't come aboard, we don't get the job, we haven't lost as much weight this week, - basically we feel we've worked hard, we're doing our bestand where has it got us?
Sometimes aren't we our own worst critics?
We forget how far we've come. I know I do. We forget to pat ourselves on the back and look at where we were a couple of months ago, where we were this time last year, where we were 5 years ago, maybe even 10 years ago.
Yes it's great to have goals and ambitions but I think too often we become too insistent on the dream, the end result, too blinkered to actually see what's going on around us. The wake up and smell the coffee' time.
We often forget to look at what we've achieved so far who we've become, what we've done, how far we've travelled.
To tell ourselves that we've done a good job yes maybe we're not there yet but let's take a minute to enjoy the scenery along the route.
Have a look at what you've achieved this year. At where you were before. What knowledge you've gained, what new people are in your life, gained some incredible experiences.
At this time of year, when we're moving so fast toward a new year with hopes and expectations let's really appreciate how far we've come, be proud of ourselves, knowing whatever we've gained this year will make us stronger to go on further toward our ultimate goal.
In order to attract more in our lives we need to be grateful for what we already have and that includes being grateful for what we've achieved so far.
When I look at what I've achieved in a year, what my clients have achieved, it makes me so proud - it's so wonderful watching people's growth and knowing that you had some hand in that.
I am so grateful for all the people that have helped me on my journey so far - we're all a 'work in progress' - we never stop changing and growing. Sometimes when 'adversity' strikes we wonder what it's all for; if we're doing the right thing but when we look round we realise that maybe that adversity was 'sent' for a reason. To make us stronger. If everything was just handed to us how spoiled we would be, we wouldn't strive for excellence, we wouldn't want to do betterthere'd be no point
Sometimes it's nice to be given a little reminder of what we've achieved and to share that with the people in your life. So I am
Enjoy the journey
