Are You In A State Of Denial About Your Need For Proper Exercise?
If you are one of the six out of ten people who do not do enough proper exercise
that works your muscular system to keep it strong and healthy it is likely you are suffering from some degree of 'disuse'. Many people are in a state of denial that they do not need to be active or strong and that they can get away with not bothering to do it.
But living in a state of denial can be a bit of a burden to carry for anyone, regardless of the reasons why. But, what does it really mean to be in denial of your health and what will it mean as you get older?
For starters the 'disuse' syndrome will make you feel much older than you need to feel. When you feel old you do not feel like being active and do not have 'jumping out of your skin' energy. So, as you do less and less activity it is leading to a downward spiral of declining health. You may not notice it too much at the time.
But you will......
It is happening while you sit watching television, driving in your car. It happens while you stand in line, while sleeping or carrying out your normal daily tasks and activities.
You have been losing muscle tissue and gaining body fat every day since sometime in your mid to late twenties. You are losing precious strength so gradually that you would have hardly noticed.
Some things that you have always done may seem harder to do and that is because your strength is slowly being siphoned from you. Eventually just getting up from a chair could take real effort, climbing a flight of stairs is out of the question and the normal functions of daily living, even carrying groceries becomes a major chore. Hello nursing home.
This is the law of nature - if you do not use it (in this case your body) you are going to lose it and this means weakness, injury or even disease. But it does not have to be like that as the newest focus is on protecting yourself against the many degenerative diseases and conditions that were once thought to be an inevitable part of getting older.
The typical sedentary adults loses one half pound of muscle tissue each year and this rate doubles after age 50. This loss is not because of the passing years it is because we are not doing active things that require muscle power and strength. It is a sad thing when 65 percent of women and 28 percent of men over age 70 cannot lift a ten pound object above their head.
This gradual loss of muscle is caused by the fact that people from their mid-forties onwards spend 80 percent of their waking hours sitting. This causes a weakening of the body not only weakening the muscles but the immune system, the heart and its pipes, the ability to transfer oxygen to the cells, the bones and every cell and tissue that is not getting the 'growth and repair' hormones that is needs to remain healthy
But it does not have to be this way. A strength training program set up properly by a fitness professional combats all of the above 'disuse' symptoms. It will strengthen muscles and bones, fosters weight loss, stimulates circulation, lowers blood pressure, regulates blood glucose, increases energy levels and boosts your mood. All of which goes a long way to help you look feel and function many years younger than your actual age which is how it should be.
