Britain's youth could hold the solution to the country's economic hardship if big business invests in management training events now, according to leading business figures.

Chief executive of the Financial Skills Partnership Liz Field, said businesses should invest in management training events and other skills programmes, insisting that this would help the economy in the longer term.

"Employers can stand to harvest a myriad of benefits if they are able to be bold and invest in this talent, which has the potential to drive growth and profitability." Ms Field said.

Her predictions come after the Government's Office for National Statistics published its findings that youth unemployment currently stands at a massive twenty per cent.

Overall UK unemployment hit a 17-year high of 2.5 million in the first three months of the year - the highest number since 1994.

But will investment in management training events really make such a big difference?

P.J. Stevens who runs Leap Plc, a firm which runs management-training events for various businesses and organisations, said that failing to invest in the UK's young people now might lead to a more significant economic meltdown in the years to come.

"Management training events are not just about teaching young people to be managers in the professional sense; it is also about teaching them to manage their own lives, which is an invaluable skill that will pay personal, social and economic dividends in the long term." He said.

"If we invest in them now, they will pay our economy back a thousand times over in the years to come, which will ultimately benefit everyone in the country.

"The last thing we want to see in this country is a whole generation of young people being cast aside because of the unfortunate economic climate, which they have done nothing to create." He added.
