Area Of Base In Geometry
In geometry, a base is a side of a plane figure or face of solid
, particularly one perpendicular to the direction height is measured or on what is considered to the bottom. This usage can be applied to a triangle, parallelogram, trapezoids, cylinder and pyramid. Let us see how to find the area of base of some geometry shapes.

Area of Base in Geometry Example Problems:
1. Find the base area of the cube whose side length is 25 cm.
Solution:
Given:
Side length (a) = 25
The base of the cube is square in shape.
Area of the square (A) = a2 square units.
= 25 x 25
= 625 cm2
Base area of the cube is 625 cm2.
2. Find the base area of the right triangular prism whose base 8 cm and length is 12 cm.
Solution:
Given:
Base (b) = 8 cm
Length (l) = 12 cm
The base of the triangular prism is triangle in shape.
Area of the right triangle (A) = b x l square units
= x 8 x 12
= 96 / 2
= 48 cm2
Base area of the triangular prism is 48 cm2
3. Find the base area of the trapezoidal prism whose length is 13 cm and length of parallel sides a = 6 cm and b = 9 cm
Solution:
Given:
Length (l) = 13 cm
a = 6 cm
b = 9 cm
The base of the trapezoidal prism is trapezoid in shape.
Area of trapezoid (A) = 1/2 x l x (a + b) square units
=1/2 x 13 x (6 + 9)
=1/2 x 13 x 15
=1/2 x 195
= 195 /2
= 97.5 cm2
Base area of the trapezoidal prism is 97.5 cm2
Area of Base in Geometry-practice Problems:
1. Find the base area of the cube whose side length is 14.8 cm.
Answer: area of the base of cube = 219.04 cm2
2. Find the base area of the right triangular prism whose base 7 cm and length is 10 cm.
Answer: base area of the triangular prism = 35 cm2

In geometry, a base is a side of a plane figure or face of solid, particularly one perpendicular to the direction height is measured or on what is considered to the bottom. This usage can be applied to a triangle, parallelogram, trapezoids, cylinder, cone, pyramid, parallelopiped or frustum. By extension, the length or area of a base is also called a base. As such, bases are commonly used in formulas for area and volume.
