Artemis Fowl: Over 20 Million Books Sold Worldwide
Eoin Colfer is the most successful contemporary childrens writer
, with more than 20 million Artemis Fowl books sold worldwide. The author is not the one to back out of a challenge, though this time he has come with a novel challenge for himself. His versatility makes even the best look ordinary, as this year he came up with a musical comedy (his first), The Lords of Love. He also added one book to the Hitchhikers Guide (of late Douglas Adams) in the Galaxy series.
The Series Is About To End
Despite his so many obvious talents, he is still most renowned for the Artemis Fowl series, which is a superb blend of fairy magic, crime, science fiction and myth. The series is also known as (the name chosen by the author Eoin Colfer himself) Die Hard with Fairies. Artemis Fowl and the Atlantis Complex is the seventh book in the series and the author Eoin Colfer says this is the penultimate adventure for the boy genius. Artemis has just turned 15 and has come up with a plan to combat global warming and save the world.
Holly Short Identifies the Problem
Captain Holly Short, however, diagnoses a problem. Artemis is suffering from Atlantis Complex, which is a multiple personality disorder, and delusional paranoia (he also dreads number four). The deadly mental condition has resulted in the appearance of Orion, which is the nice alter ego of Artemis. This personality of Artemis speaks like a romantic poet. When the fairy city of Atlantis is being attacked by the amorphobots guided by a psychotic, the readers start to wonder whether the old hyper intelligent Artemis will be brought back by Holly and the fairy friends in time to save the city.
The Bodyguard Is Trapped
The heroic bodyguard of Artemis, Butler, is trapped in a wrestling ring with his sister. The zombie wrestling fans are after their life. The wrestling scene has been brilliantly written, which is complete with all the drama of real wrestling. The writing style of the author Eoin Colfer has also undergone a sea change (may be due to the versatility of the work hes been doing). He also refers freely to Star Trek, Middle Earth and Shakespeare. His writing style was already pretty inventive, and his filling in for Douglas Adams this year has also added to it. Although Eoin Colfer still remains a childrens writer, the book Artemis Fowl and the Atlantis Complex should not be missed by people of any age group.
