Article Marketing Strategies: How Long Does It Take To Get Page One Ranking On Google?

I received this excellent question from a reader:

"I want to know why my website is not ranking for my keywords in Google, when it is already ranking on the first page on Bing, Yahoo, and Ask. I'm getting some initial traffic as the result of article marketing, but I want to know when I'll see results in Google. Also, I've been tracking my website's progress on Alexa.com, but someone told me that Alexa's information isn't accurate or reliable. I'm confused about how to tell if I'm making progress--I hope you can help me!"

I wanted to share this question because I know that it can be quite confusing when you're trying to understand how your site is doing as a result of your marketing activities. You've invested a lot of energy and time, and it's natural to want to see progress.

First off, if your web page is ranking on page one for your keywords on other search engines but not on Google, it's still helpful to keep on tracking your web page in Google so that you can keep track of movement. As you continue to do article submissions, you should see a trend toward upward movement in Google as well.

Every month, I monitor how my web page is doing for each of my keywords in several search engines, with Google being my main focus (as Google has the largest share of customers). For some of my keywords, my web page was unranked at the beginning, but with consistent article marketing and other marketing techniques, my site has steadily climbed Google's rankings.

It is a thrill to watch your site gain ground--don't be discouraged if your web page is not appearing in the rankings for particular keywords yet. Instead, track where it appears each month, and with consistent article submissions, you'll start to make progress. Even if you can't find your website in the rankings for a keyword, keep on checking it each month. Rankings change all the time, and a site like yours that was once not in the rankings can rise up with consistent marketing!

By the way, I share this to encourage you--for some of my keywords my site was ranking really low, discouragingly low, before I started marketing for that keyword, but over time it has risen up to the #1 and #2 position (holding both positions for the same keyword!). It was a challenge, but it was extremely fulfilling to watch things change over the months, and it gave me inspiration to keep on working and submitting articles. I hope that my story does the same for you!

How long will it take to get a page one ranking in Google?

That question is impossible to answer, as there are various factors that go into determining a web page's ranking. For example, there is the age of the page, the SEO of the page, links that are being built to your site, and so on.

What I can tell you is that it is not uncommon to see progress in the other search engines before seeing similar strides in Google.

Now, you had also asked about gauging your website's success in Alexa. Alexa and similar services are good for measuring the traffic of other sites in comparison to your own, but since this is your own site, you can remove the guess work and measure the traffic exactly. I would suggest using Google Analytics to do that, and that's a free tool to use.

Just remember that marketing your site is a long term endeavour, and sometimes results don't come as quickly as we'd like! Hang in there though, and keep up your marketing activities.
