Artist Spotlight: Ron Burns

The work of Ron Burns is one of the main attractions at the Off The Wall Gallery in Houston, Texas this coming winter. His astounding canine portraits will be exhibited to the public from December 8, 2010 through the end of the year. Ron was born in Ohio and stayed there long enough to gain a Bachelor of Science Degree in Visual Communications from Ohio State University. He decided to find out what all the fuss was about in Los Angeles and moved there in 1977. Ron used his considerable talents to work in the restrictive world of corporate design where his high profile clients included Dick Clark Productions and Blue Cross.

Even though Ron was part of the corporate world, he never allowed himself to become consumed by it. For him, it was a means of providing for his family and his wife Buff, was fully supportive throughout these years. Yet for an artist like Ron, being forced into a creative straitjacket was soul-destroying as was the non-stop demand for his graphic design creations. The fact that Los Angeles itself seemed as creatively stifling as corporate life exacerbated Ron's discontent.

He found solace in painting and found that it released his soul from the black hole of corporate life. It allowed him to create his own visions, unencumbered by deadlines and specifications. In 1987, the Whittier earthquake struck and rattled his design studio to its very foundation. It also served to shake up Ron's life to its core with he and Buff considering a future away from the tensions of the business world. They decided to move to Arizona, far away from the tailored suits, giant cellular phones and invasiveness of big city life.
