Asics Gel 1150
Asics took advantage of the popularity that the highly capable yet cost effective 1140 enjoyed to release this upgrade which will leave this series' loyal followers satisfied while still attracting the still skeptical customers to try them. The gel unit used in the 1150 is the smallest among all Asics models yet it is among the softest ones to be used on shoes in this niche. Runners whose arches are normal but in need of some extra cushioning and mild to neutral support are bound to benefit a lot from this shoe without having to spent a fortune.
After being out of running for a few years, I once again decided to run sport the Nike structure triax, I didn't choose them for any reason other than the fact that I wanted something that I had already used before. Not long into the sport, I started experiencing pain in my shins and knees. This led me to visit a local shop dedicated to running gear to have my gait analyzed and they found the support in the triax a little excessive and I just could handle that kind of motion control.
This in no way suggest that the triax are not great shoes for running, in fact, numerous improvements have been made by Nike on this shoes to put them among the best running shoes. The triax is actually a great series for anyone in need of a lot of support. For my case however, I needed a shoe that was more neutral but still offering great medial stability so I looked through the shoes on offer that fit this description and that's how I ended up with the Asics 1140, which have recently been updated to Asics 1150( Asics has already produced the 1160 though runningguru.com is yet to test them)
The category we are looking at is called stability and is designed for generic runners;- those whose arches are normal and still need good support and cushioning. The 1150 provides just what I need in a running shoe and its price is also very fair. I have already used six pairs of either 1150 or 1140's up to now and I don't intend making any changes s loon as this quality is maintained.
Although, this shoe cannot be described as light, it is very heavy either and it is just what any athlete will accept from a stability shoe. For long runs in training, full and half marathons I always don my 1150's but quickly revert to racers when the distances are shorter, like five of ten kilometers.
When the correct insoles are used( there is a joke that those packed with the shoes cost less to make than the shoelaces), these shoes can be very comfortable.. I find them comfortable enough to convert my old running shoes into everyday shoes, just a simple wash in the washing machine and a pair of fresh insoles and am good to go. Of course I change my trainers often meaning that each retired pair still has considerable life in it.
I actually get around 300 miles from each pair before retiring them not because they are dysfunctional but because of my body size. My 6'2, 185 pound frame puts just too much pressure on running shoes to expect more mileage from them. I think this makes the 1150 ideal since they survive all these and more. I am sure I would get more miles out of them if I wasn't so worried that they might snap at some point injuring me inn the process. When rotating the sole, I play very safe but I am quite certain that lighter runner can get a lot more miles out of the 1150's.
My only complaint is that the tongue of the shoe occasionally rubs against my angle, but mostly I am the one at fault for tying the shoes incorrectly mangling up the tongue in the process. It only happens rarely and I cease noticing it after maybe five minutes.
This Asics Gel 1150 shoe is the ideal choice for those wishing to don stability shoes for the first time since it offers everything you can get from $100+ shoes but at a lower cost. You can acquire a pair for about $80 and you can stumble on some exceptional deals that that can land the 1150s for just $60. You really can't beat a good pair of Asics Running Shoes.
