Attract Clients by Mastering Sales: Part 1
Sales is one of the critical skills you will need to master as a life coach in order to attract clients. There are six fundamental components within sales that you need to practice over and over until they become natural for you. This article addresses the first step.
The first and most important step is the space you come from as a life coach. Mastering this step is the key to making all the other steps work. If you dont master this step, you wont master any part of sales and you wont be able to attract clients.
To clarify the space you come from, let me give you an example. When youre raising kids, you need to come from the space of being a loving parent. You provide a home, a space for your kids to be loved, be taken care of and be nourished. You create a space where they can have fun, grow, learn about life, and prepare for adulthood.
But there are also many parents who dont create that space for their kids. Some may be workaholics and dont have time for their kids. Other parents may be emotionally abusive or may abandon their kids altogether. Those parents havent learned how to hold the space of being loving parents for their children.
By the same token, there are two components of the space you will need to hold for your clients if you want to be a successful life coach and attract clients. The first place you need to learn to come from is the space of being a trusted advisor and counselor, an expert, someone who holds the space of being a professional life coach or success coach. You are responsible for holding this space, for embracing it and from coming from this place inside you.
The second space is a space of service, of having your clients best interests in mind. Theres no attention on you. Theres no selfishness. Its all about them. You hold the space of wanting to make a huge difference for them and have an impact on their lives. If you come from these two spaces in everything you do in the sales process, youll attract as many coaching clients as youll ever need without struggle.
There are also a few spaces that many life coaches come from that dont work. One is the space of fear. Another is the space of being rejected. Another is the space of selfishness. Another is the space of needing money, of wanting to get clients, of wanting to be successful. None of these spaces work. Because when you come from these places, your clients feel it exuding from you. You may not say it verbally, but your body language, thoughts, emotions and intonations all broadcast this from a mile away. And your clients feel it. So they wont trust you. They wont buy from you. Because they know you dont have their best interests in mind. Youre not in it for them. Youre in it for you.
So you have to weed these thoughts, emotions, fears and insecurities from your body, mind and emotions. And you can only do it with practice, lots and lots of practice. Lots of failing. Thats the only way to master a skill. The key to mastering this practice is to talk to lots and lots of potential clients and become obsessive with monitoring your own thoughts and emotions. You have to monitor your fears and insecurities as you hear that little voice in your head.
When you first begin, youll notice yourself wanting to come from serving your clients. Then your clients will give you an objection. Then youll feel the subtle fear of rejection inside your stomach or possibly the subtle fear of not being successful or thinking you cant find clients. So you notice this, you let those feelings pass, and you put your attention back on them and back on being their trusted advisor and doing whats best for them.
If you master this step, youll be a natural at all the remaining sales steps and youll naturally attract clients without struggle.
