The domestic cleaning company that I used to be involved with had a little rule which said that the domestic cleaners were not allowed to use bleach to keep the home cleaner so I thought I would investigate why that might be.
In the past they had submitted a number of claims to their insurance company which were the result of bleach being spilt onto a carpet. Now bleach can ruin a carpet by taking all the colour out of them. On a couple of occasions their clients made claims for carpeting the whole house as the carpets matched in all rooms and they did not think that could just replace one bit.
Now insurance companies are not in business to pay out too many claims so they decided that they would not pay out any more for claims where bleach was involved.
Bleach is a very dangerous chemical and it is actually poisonous so, if you do use it in your home make sure that you take good care. Make sure that you wear gloves at all times and do not breathe in the fumes.
It is not all bad news however. Its main use is in the toilet where it does work well to get rid of the nasty stains that seem to build up there as well as getting rid of germs. It will also work well in the kitchen to clear away tea stains on the work surfaces and is used as a disinfectant.
When storing bleach it should be locked away safely in a cupboard and kept separate from any other cleaning chemicals as it will cause a nasty reaction if mixed.
Perhaps you understand the challenge of bleach a little more now so make sure that you take care.
