Warnings have been issued to Christmas shoppers this year as the festive season sets in, that they should be more aware of their vehicles. If you are anything like me, you will dread the preamble up to Christmas, hating the crowds and not enjoying trying to find a space when everyone is town is also doing the same. People tend to try and get it all done in one fell swoop, and go back to their cars to dump presents before heading back for round two. But thieves see this as a prime opportunity to break into cars and steal the kids Christmas presents, that you have just spent your hard earned cash on.

Car thefts historically have increased by ten percent in December over the last couple of years, with these figures staying high through January while shoppers take advantage of the discounts and buying up good deals in the sales.

Advice is to be extra vigilant during this time, and understand that thieves do not believe in goodwill and peace on earth, like most people do during these months. Make sure that you park in car parks or lit areas rather than trying to save on parking and parking in areas that you wouldn't normally.

Many car insurers cover theft to vehicles, but you will have to pay a premium and risk losing your no claims bonus, making your Car Insurance higher next year, so its better to be careful and avoid having your car broken into in the first instance.
