Awards - Much Needed Tonic For The Film Fraternity

Whats the first thing you do after watching a good movie

? Tell your friends about the good and not-so-good things of the movie? Whats next? Hail the hero and the special effects of the movie! Nevertheless, on a few occasions, the credit goes to the witty director. Apart from the hero, there are a lot of other artists who act in the movie and not to mention the people who work behind the screen as well. Some of the most important talents of any movie include the director, who is the captain of the ship, the producer who is the financial head of the movie, and of course those highly paid actors like hero, heroine, child artists, supporting characters, villain, and comedians. But there is something that we generally dont pay attention to. Apart from these people, there are other hard working people who work behind the scenes day in and day out. They are the backbone of any movie. Some of the most important talents who work behind the scenes are the writer, musician, camera man, stunt man, visual and graphic specialists and the list goes on. The sad part is that they dont get the kind of credit that they actually deserve. Moviegoers dont even know the names of those who toil behind the scenes, let alone their appearance.

The success or failure of any movie is only a combined effort of these people. After putting their heart and soul for a project, they deserve a great amount of encouragement and motivation which will eventually help them to grow in confidence and produce better movies in the future.

A few decades back, Hollywood came up with this idea of recognizing and honoring the talents in the film fraternity by gifting them with awards. Among the most prestigious awards in the history of cinema are the Oscars, the Grammys, and the Golden Globe awards.

The Award shows are among the favorite programs that I love watching on my computer with an ATT UVerse Internet connection. Apart from the presentation, I also love watching the performance showcased by popular artists. The Academy Award, commonly called as the Oscars, is considered as the Mother of all movie awards. The Academy award is conferred by the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) and is televised live every year all over the world. This award is bestowed with the purpose of recognizing the excellence of talents in the film fraternity. The category of nominees also includes the likes of directors, actors, and writers. The Academy Award is also among the oldest awards ever to hail film fraternity. The first Academy award was given was in 1929 and the ceremony took place at Hotel Roosevelt in Hollywood. The nominated list consisted of names of movies that were released in 1927-1928. Of course, the Academy Awards has its own set of rules and regulations to decide the eligibility criteria for nominations. The Academy Award ceremony for 2011 took place at Hollywoods Kodak Theatre in February 2011.

Other popular movie awards are the Grammy, the Golden Globe, Emmy Award, and Tony Award. The Grammy Award is given by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences of the United States with a view of honoring the outstanding talents in the music industry. People from the film fraternity regard the Grammy Award as being next only to the Oscar. The first Grammy Award ceremony was held in 1959.

The Golden Globe is another prestigious award that honors the movie talents. People who bag the Oscar are usually considered as strong contenders for the Golden Globe awards. However, the number of awards presented in Golden Globes is only 15 whereas its 24 in Academy Awards.

So whats next? Movie buffs and film reviewers are already coming out with their precursors for the nominations and winners of the 84th Academy Awards to be held in February 2012. The nominations are set to be announced in January 2011. No doubt, the excitement is set to rise to the roof when the event takes place in February 2012 in Los Angels.
