Axis Dynamics Of The Cnc-milling
Milling machines are used in shaping and cutting raw materials like metal and wood
. The most common milling machine is Computer Numerical Controlled-Milling machine or CNC-Milling machine. It is the best kind of milling machine used in prototyping. It utilizes computerized machineries wherein the CAD or computer aided design are converted into numbers and coordinates. These numbers and coordinates represent the drilling tools positioning and the movement axis.
The axes (plural of axis) are the main contributors to the precise and refined machining capabilities in CNC-milling since the axis codes are actually the allotted measurements for the manufactured products. X, Y, and Z are the axes usually offered in most milling machines. X and Y coordinates refers to length and width or horizontal orientations. It represents the cutting point locations and specifies the space between each cut. Their positions and names can be interchangeable to each other depending on the construction of the machine (for left or right handed machines). Z refers to the height or vertical orientations. It represents the supposed depth of the cut.
Additional axes like W and B are utilized to widen the variety and flexibility for machining the angles usually unreachable with other axes. B refers to the diagonal orientations. With the addition of axis B, cuts to the edge and faces of a block material can be done. W represents the horizontal pivot on the milling head or circumferences of the rounded figures. With the addition of axis W, various sizes and various shapes could be cut into the material. Plus (+) signed axes means the perpendicular or opposite orientations of the certain axis.
The milling machineries that carry X, Y, Z movement axes are considered as 3D manufactured. This is the most common form of CNC-Milling machines. The wood and plastic manufacturing factories are the usual purchasers of this kind. They use 3D manufactured milling machines to carve simple wood designs and gear cutting. It can produce materials like wood door handles, tables with simple designs and plywood sheets.
The milling machineries with 4- axis carry additional B axis. It manufactures more complex designs of wood, plastic and light metal molds. It can produce materials like metallic cellphone parts, small jewelries and thin metal sheets
5-axis milling machineries carry additional two axes: B and W axes. It manufactures complicated designs of different raw materials. It can cut through hard metals and even the softest ones like wax. It can be used in any prototyping of wood designs, customization of parts, metal fabrication, jewelry making and even dental prosthetics.
6-axis milling machineries carry additional three axes: B, W and W+. It has another horizontal pivot for the milling head, perpendicular to the fifth axis. It is the fastest and the most technical milling machine available in the market today.
As time passed, technology also progressed and evolved. Before, cutting and drilling tools require more effort and energy. Precision mostly depends on the manual work of people. Now, not only that it requires less work, effort and energy but also everything comes in one piece of equipment; making manufacturing very easy.
