The spillage of the Bagre Dam in the Burkina Faso which was reported some few weeks
ago had affected the three Northern regions of Ghana and the livelihood of some community members.
According to the report, the spillage of Bagre Dam which coupled with heavy torrential rains in the three northern regions have so far claimed 17 lives in Upper East and Northern region.
The public relations officer of National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) Major Nicolas Mensah has blamed the victims for refusing to heed to the advice given by NADMO to relocate to safer ground to avoid any calamity.
The officials of the Burkinabe's authority have signaled the Ghanaian authority of the possible spillage of the Bagre Dam. The Ghana government had also warned those located in the areas especially communities close the White Volta basin where the spillage could possibly affect to relocate.
Meanwhile officials of the Emergency and Rapid Response Unit of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) has toured the affected communities the white Volta Basin in the Upper East Region to assess the extent damage caused to life and property as a result of the spillage.
The affected individuals and communities were supplied with relief items including food, clothing and shelters.
The PRO explained that other residents also risked their lives by harvesting their crops submerged by the flood and in the process their canoes capsizised, leading to their death.
The Regional Coordinator of NADMO has also called on all residence to heed to advise given them by the organization in other to avoid any situation.
