Leonardo Da Vinci was a very well known artist throughout the world. Many do not know about his various accomplishments as an inventor. He had over a hundred different intriguing inventions, gadgets, and plans devised 500 years ahead of his time. It is not hard to see him as one of the greatest inventors of all time.

Leonardo went beyond his abilities when he studied nature for his paintings. He would put his art off for months just to favor his love of science. He led a solitary life and devoting himself to his unending studies. He not only had endless skill and unbelievable patients, but he also demonstrated a huge amount curiosity as well. Always wanting to know the reason why, he would search for answers to questions he had never been asked before.

Observation was the key to his further study. He tried to learn just about everything that there is to life. Going from one invention to another; many of his inventions were unfinished. Drawing many pictures and writing many notes was as far as he ever got; he never really built or followed through with many of his inventions. Even in his own time Leonardo was misunderstood for what he was trying to do as a scientist. For instance, to further his study of anatomy he had to dissect and study the bodies of the dead to be able to get his answers but at that time period the dead were considered sacred. His work had to be given up.

Leonardo had so many thoughts running through his mind at one time. According to BBG Communications, he designed inventions for every aspect of life like: communictions methods, military purposes, water transportation, textile machines and the one he was most interested in was the idea of flight. He had detailed drawings of birds in which he focused on their techniques of how to fly. He had ideas for a hang glider, a helicopter, and even a parachute.

The idea of the parachute was one of his greatest ideas. He wrote, "If a man has a tent of closely woven linen without any apertures, twelve braccia across and twelve braccia in depth, he can throw himself down from any great height without injury." A braccio was a man's arm length. He had this kind of idea three hundred years before there was a successful flight off an observatory in France. He thought of the idea as a means of getting from a higher place to a lower place. However, his design was constructed with square frame not our modern round edges. Nevertheless, He should be accredited for the invention of the parachute.

Leonardo was a misunderstood genius. He was just trying to further his study in science and no one understood his mysterious ways. Five hundred years ahead of his time still amaze many people today. It is hard to pick his greatest inventor from them all but he is one of the most advanced men of our time.
