Bandaranaike International Airport The Main Airdrome Of Sri Lanka

of arrival and departure which is the Bandaranaike International Airport or which is also commonly known as the Colombo International Airport. It is currently the only airport which helps Sri Lanka in international flights. The airport was originally begun in 1944 as the Royal Air Force used for the Second World War. Once Sri Lanka gained independence SWRD Bandaranayke who was the former prime minister at that time demolished all the military airdromes around the island and retained the one in Colombo naming it Katunayake and it still carries on Military activities like they did in the past. It got its current name in 1995 named after SWRD Bandaranayke. Presently the airport is undergoing renovations for further expansion of the runway and to provide more facilities to the frequent travelers.
