BMTC (Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation) is the state PSU which runs Bengaluru
city transport service and its sister concern KSRTC (Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation) runs services in rest of the state and other states too. BMTC was previously knows as BTS but when it was split from KSRTC in 1997, it was renamed as BMTC and the color of the buses was changed to combination of blue and white from red. It was found in 1940 that has headquarters in Bengaluru with current fleet size of around 6000 plus, operating trips around 40 lakhs (combined BMTC & KSRTC). Fares are calculated based on bus route stage. BMTC has different type of services starting with ordinary service, buses are colored in blue and white, these are old buses, next is light blue buses, new ordinary buses under the JnNURM scheme that has LED display, next is Marcopolo non-AC buses introduced under JnNURM scheme, also with LED display, and new batch of red buses running ordinary services, that meets the current emission standards. Survana service is a silver colored buses with red lining, fare is slightly higher than ordinary buses. Big 10 buses are colored in bottle green, that runs in 12 major divisions in the city. Pushpak also called as Janapriya Vahini, started early in the 1990s, these are single door, that are with and without conductors; these are light brown in color, slowly weaning out of service. Vajra, which are of Volvo buses, runs in IT corridor. The rates are 1.5 times higher compared to ordinary services. Vaju vajra, runs buses to and fro to Bengaluru International Airport and it has Wi-Fi access for the commuters. Atal sarige, this is low fare buses, tri-colored buses, for economically weaker section. Marcopolo AC buses are new range buses that are expensive by one half. Metro feeders which was introduced recently, runs services in the city, and lastly BMTC recently introduced Mercedes-Benz class buses. Each route is identified by a specific route number, for example Route No. 2 operates buses to and fro from Kempegowda Bus Stop, also called as Majestic, to JP Nagar 6th Phase. Bus route numbers start from 1 and runs up to 600, although some numbers are not in use. Big10 bus route numbers are different in nature, starting with BC-1 and so on, ending with BC-12B.
