Gandhi Jayanti celebrations: Remembering Father of the Nation
Preacher of non violence and truth, who unwaveringly lead our nation towards Independence; its time to remember him again as 2nd October is here, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Popularly called as Bapu, the whole country celebrates Gandhi Jayanti in his remembrance. The day is declared as national holiday and prayers are held at Rajghat, where people from varied community and religious background offer their prayers in respect of the great leader of the nation.
Gandhiji was born on the in the year 1869 in Porbander in Gujarat. Through his peaceful freedom struggle, he sent the message across to the world that freedom can be achieved through path of nonviolence. He instigated the movements like non-cooperation and Satyagraha which were main episodes of the struggle epic.
Gandhiji to the core believed that every religion preaches love, compassion and nonviolence. He strove to practice non-violence and truth in all situations and advocated that others should also do the same. He believed in living a simple life and in being a 'Swadeshi'. For that, he lived modestly in a self-sufficient residential colony and adopted Indian traditional clothing like dhoti and shawl, woven with yarn, which he himself used to spin on a charkha. He gave up all the luxuries of the life. He ate simple vegetarian food, and also undertook long fasts as means of protest and self purification.
School kids rejoice the occasion
Though on this day, school and offices remain closed, throughout the country, but people do commemorate the occasion. Especially kids, as there are gala celebrations in various schools. Along with eminent political leaders and people from different walks of life, school children also visit Raj Ghat, the memorial of Mahatma Gandhi to pay homage to the great persona. Also, Verses and prayers are read out from the holy books of all the religions. Gandhi's favorite song, Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram, is invariably sung at almost all the prayer meetings.
Mothers Pride school and Presidium school branches also rejoiced the occasion in full swing with the children. Children looked adorable decked up as Mahatma Gandhi, Sarojini Naidu , Bhagat Singh, soldiers and others. The lovable performances by kids on Pro- Gandhi numbers truly mesmerized staff and teachers. To conclude it was a lively atmosphere, the day was enjoyed by the students and all the staff members.
