Bartending, Building Relationships And Attraction Marketing

Bartending, Building Relationships And Attraction Marketing

Many years ago, I was a full time bartender and I really did enjoy my job at that time in my life. It's funny how I look back and reflect on how there are actually many similar traits between being a bartender and being a network marketer.

During my first days and weeks on the bar, I didn't necessarily have a lot of patrons coming in to sit at my bar. I waited on people as they came in the door and decided to sit at the bar, because they wanted to sit at the bar and not necessarily because I was bartending.

Over time I developed my skills as a bartender and more importantly, I got to know my guests on a more individual level. I started building relationships with them. Soon they weren't specifically coming to our bar because our beer tasted any different than anywhere else, but rather because they wanted to go somewhere where the bartender knew them and could anticipate their needs.

As the years went by, I began making much more money because of the "regulars" I enjoyed waiting on at my bar. Many of them had their drinks sitting on the bar as they walked through the front door and they appreciated that, they saw a value in it.

Actually, I had one particular group of "regulars" that came in on Tuesday nights, every week, and I always enjoyed waiting on them. After I left they kept going back for a couple of weeks, but at some point decided not to continue going there. They no longer go that establishment, but rather go to the restaurant across the street. I know this because, to this day, and I left that bartending job over five years ago, I still sometimes run into a couple of my former "regulars". They continue to go out every week and they still go to the competition across the street...and they still invite me to meet them over there for a drink ;)

I don't say all of this to imply that I think I was such a superb bartender. My bartending skills are definitely not the point of this article.

I am writing this because I think it is essential to demonstrate the importance of attraction marketing and building relationships. It's so important as a network marketer to brand yourself and to make sure that you are providing value to your target market.

Bear in mind, there are potentially thousands of distributors in any network marketing opportunity and you are all offering the same compensation plan along with the same products. The one variation in what you are promoting is YOU. You must become so valuable to your prospects that they will want to join YOU, not your competition.

Give your prospects an incentive to want to join your business and your team. Give to your prospect without asking anything in return. Anticipate their needs and they will be grateful for that. Position yourself as the leader they are looking for by providing them value, so that when they are looking to join a business, they will look to you!

The concepts of attraction marketing are actually quite simple, but sometimes those are the things we tend to overcomplicate :)
