Basic Safety Tips For Drivers

By following our common sense and natural instincts we can avoid many dangerous situations in real life

. No matter who we are or what we do, the rules of the game are always the same and one must be aware of ones surroundings. Never look like a victim and keep your heat up high and try your best to project a vision of confidence and control. Our task today will be to create a list of common situations that we face every day and see how one should act in those circumstances.

When you are walking

Do your best to stay on well-traveled and well-lit streets and avoid shortcuts through dark areas in which you would feel surrounded and vulnerable. This is especially important during the evening when it is much more dangerous to go alone through wooded areas or alleys.

Do not allow anyone to see that you have a large amount of cash or expensive jewelry on you. Try to keep the location of your valuables hidden and do not draw attention to yourself.

If you are carrying a purse then hold it close to your body so that you know somebody cannot snatch it away from you.

If it is legal in your area, obtain a pepper spray or stun gun device and hold it somewhere close so that you can pull it out in case of a dangerous situation.

Observe the movement of others around you and if your instincts tell you a location is dangerous do your best to avoid it. Always go through areas that are well-lit, but not too crowded.

When you are driving

Examine where you are going and get a good idea of the paths you need to take before you begin a journey. Try to avoid making decisions on the road and equip yourself with a modern map of the area or a GPS system.

Always make sure you have enough gas to reach your location and get back from it.

When leaving your car, roll-up the windows and lock it down, even if you are going to be right back to your vehicle.

Be careful where you are parking your car and be alerted inside of underground parking garages.

As nice as it may be to help somebody out, it may be best if you didnt pick up hitchhikers. On a similar note you should never hitchhike yourself.

Do not allow yourself to be provoked and forced out of your vehicle easily. Many robberies and carjacking schemes work this way. The first driver will force you out of the car, while the second person jumps in out of nowhere and steals your vehicle. Always be cautious and on the lookout!

How to handle road rage

Police reports state that violent incidents on the road that can be labeled as road rage have increased by more than 50 percent over the last couple of years. There a lot of drivers out there who might get on your nerves, but you must never lose your focus and let emotions take control of you. Avoid road rage and follow the following tips:

Do not allow another person to egg you into a violent (verbal of physical) dual in the middle of a highway! It is a very dangerous situation and you should not allow yourself to get into such a predicament. If somebody it tailgating you then just let them pass, no need to take it personally.

If another driver is obviously showing an aggressive attitude avoid all forms of contact with them.

Your horn is meant to be used a signalization tool and you need to use it to signal a warning. Do not use it to express anger or insult other people.
