I have no idea if this scene was put into the movie as a comment on the ethical treatment of war captives or the controversy surrounding torture in general - nor do I care. What it added to the narrative was that this is war -

The Ugly: Battle: Los Angeles' critical weakness is that it's very much like a pervert wandering your neighborhood dressed only in a trench coat and dark sunglasses... it's all flash and no heart.
